We are all familiar with classical art, pictures and portraits in oil or water-based paint on canvas and other mediums. The art of hand embroidery dates back to the 3rd and 5th century BC. Hand embroidery paints pictures using a needle and thread painstakingly worked over months and years. Masterpieces contain ribbons, silks, hand dyed threads, beads and other materials. Each masterpiece contains a multitude of precise stitches lovingly and expertly placed to create depth, intricate detail and intensity. Each piece worked on a variety mediums from clothing fabrics, to linens including jewellery and canvasses. Hand embroidery is done all over the world, it crosses all cultures, all age groups, all religions and all genders.
Dyeing is the process of adding colour to yarns, also an age old skill. At Chameleon we have been producing hand dyed embroidery threads to cater for this; (hand embroidery) specific art form for more than 15 years. Each thread is available in single colour or in unique variegated skeins, in stranded cottons, perle and silks. Chameleon make use of DMC base products for all our cottons, perle and rayon threads and Alger and Paris from Au Ver a Soie for our silk
threads.
